We offer both a non-competitive and competitive schedule which runs from November until the end of March. There is an extra fee of $ 100.00 per team for the competitive league.
Bonspiels are held nearly every weekend at a cost of $15.00 per player for ice rental.
We also offer a "Little Rocks" program for very young curlers on Sunday afternoons for a nominal fee- $2.00 for the entire year. Students from primary and elementary schools are also given curling instruction as a part of their physical education program.
Sponsors
Our curling club gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Canadian Curling Association through its Curling Development Fund.
We also acknowledge the funding provided by the New Brunswick Curling Association and particularly the Capital Curling Region Branch of the aforementioned association.
Finally, the "Little Rocks" program would not have been possible if were not for the generous support of J.D Irving Ltd., the Doaktown Phamasave, and GoNB.
History
The Doaktown Curling club was founded in 1960 when 12 interested community members met and elected a governing body to oversee operations. The first curling was done on the "fair grounds" in front of the grand stand which was located between the present club and the golf course. The first year's curling was done on an outdoor rink, but in 1961 the game moved in doors when a new clubhouse and covered rink were constructed on the same site as the present building. Members bought shares and donated labour to finance the new building. On July 20, 1962 the Doaktown Curling Club was incorporated. In 1963 bathrooms , a kitchen and bar were installed. In 1964, a new set of curling stones was purchased. In 1968 an ice plant was purchased and installed. Thanks to the generosity of long time American sportsman Gruber, the club underwent a major renovation in the late 1970's which included an expanded club house and basement.
The club continues to allocate funding for improvements such as regular maintenance on the ice plant. Every summer, students are hired to do routine maintenance such as painting and cleaning. Club members also volunteer to help with suppers, weddings and bonspiels.
